Purpose and Reason:

Effective January 1, 2002, the rules are amended to reflect the following statutory increases 1) the cap on the minimum monthly maintenance needs allowance is $2,232; 2) the minimum protected resource amount is $17,856; 3) the maximum protected resource amount is $89,280; 4) the federal cap for institutionalized individuals is $1,635 monthly; and 5) the MA policy reflects the SSI payment levels as increased by the Social Security Administration's cost of living adjustment. Effective January 1, 2002, the Medically Needy Income Limits are increased pursuant to R.I.G.L. 40-8-3.
